In February 2000, Founder and President Joe McGee turned his lifelong passion for artistry and craftsmanship into what would become Advantage Signs. Raised in Baltimore, fondly known as Charm City, Joe was inspired by his father, a talented artist who built a career creating and selling custom artwork and hand-lettered designs. From intricate letterheads to visuals that spoke volumes, his father’s work was a testament to the power of creativity and attention to detail. Watching his father’s dedication to creativity and detail sparked Joe’s love for personalized, custom work that could tell a story or leave a lasting impression.

When it came time to name his company, Joe embraced a little creative strategy. Before the internet changed how businesses were found, the Yellow Pages were king. To make sure his business appeared at the top of the listings, Joe chose the name “Advantage Signs.” It was the closest he could get to the top of the alphabet—a name that’s not only memorable but also serves as a reminder of his entrepreneurial roots.

But the name wasn’t just about strategy. It symbolized the ethos of the business: always providing clients with an advantage, whether through superior craftsmanship, unmatched service, or building relationships that extend far beyond a single project.
